In the war for talent, professional development comes out on top. 62% of firms increased their professional development spending with an average increase of 1-2 FTEs to teams at large firms.

Heightened focus on building leadership skills for younger lawyers
Associates are getting more leadership programming earlier in their career. The average number of hours of leadership training is rising at the associate level, up 9.6 from 7.9 hours. Yet declining for partners, down 11.9 to 5.4.

Leadership programs remain largely ineffective
When asked about their current leadership programs' effectiveness professional development leaders gave a resounding "not enough". On a scale of 1 to 10, respondents rated training an average 4.6, a modest rise from 4.0 three years ago.
